TEAMS FROM 10 COUNTRIES COMPETE IN 18TH ASIAN SCHOOLS 10-PIN BOWLING TOURNEY

KUCHING: Teams from 10 countries are in the fray for 18th Asian Schools Tenpin Bowling Championship 2017 which is on from November 12 to 18  at the Emart Megalanes of Jalan Batu Kawah, Kuching.

 

The participating teams are represented by 200 bowlers from host Malaysia,  Australia, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Kuwait, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia and Singapore.

 

The launching ceremony was officiated by Sarawak’s Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports, His honourable Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah who was accompanied by Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) Chief Executive Officer, Dr Ong Kong Swee, Asian Bowling Federation (ABF) Honorary Life President Vivien Lau, Amateur 10-Pin Bowling Association Sarawak (ABAS) president, Sunny Si Poh Heng and his vice president Robert Lu.

 

In his opening speech, the minister congratulated the Amateur Bowling (Tenpin) Association of Sarawak (ABAS) for winning the bid to host the prestigious tournament Kuching, Sarawak in which it showed the state is capable of hosting international tenpin bowling tournaments.

 

“I hope all participants and officials coming from outside Malaysia not only come to participate in this tournament but enjoy the uniqueness of the tourist spots in Sarawak too. We have a lot to offer in terms of our culture and heritage,” the minister added while pointing out that the event could become a good platform for the young players to gain more exposure and experience in the sport.
